War graves

Those killed in battle abroad were normally buried near where they fell, but the wounded were repatriated for medical attention and those who did not recover were also given official recognition. The official headstones in Portland stone are easy to recognise. However, some families opted for their own memorials, and many are tucked away in the wilder areas of the cemetery.
